054A (Jiangkai II) Class Frigate

The 054A (Jiangkai II) Class Guided Missile Frigate is a multi-purpose Frigate developed by the PLAN. It is the successor of 054 (Jiangkai) Class FFG, using the same hull but with improved sensors and weapons. The 054A frigates are capable of Anti-aircraft and Anti-submarine, therefore this class of ships are able to conduct independent missions or carry out ASW operations in a CSG or convoy.

The 054A frigates and its predecessors, 054 frigates, are often used to compare with the French Lafayette Class Frigate due to their similar shape and displacement. In addition, the Chinese used French-derived electronics and weapons; since the French exported these systems to China in the 1980s, and later granted production licences to the chinese.

052D (Luyang III) Class Destroyer

The 052D (Luyang III) Class Guided Missile Destroyer is the successor of the 052C (Luyang II) Class DDG developed by the PLAN. Equipped with multi-purpose VLS (not limited to surface-to-air missiles) and flat panel AESA radars made 052D became PLAN’s first dedicated multi-role Destroyer.
The 052D.

The Chinese media often calls the 052D destroyers as “Chinese AEGIS” informally, since its appearance resembles the United States’ Arleigh Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyers due to its flat panel radars and canister-based VLS.
